Gluten-Free Mini Corndogs

Why is everything better with breading? Don't believe me? Without breading ...

  • Cheese curds would just be chunks of mysteriously shaped cheese.
  • Onion rings would just be fried onions.
  • Chicken strips would be just ... chicken.
  • Corndogs would just be boring old hot dogs.

Can we all just agree that the world is a better place with breading?

Well, the bummer about some of the ridiculously delicious things I mentioned above is that they're usually dipped in heavy breading and then fried in oil. Don't get me wrong, I love a good fried-food binge, but I know I can't have these delightful dishes often. Everything in moderation, right?

I'm so excited for our brand-new Crunchy Sesame Pretzel Breading. You guys, this stuff is the real deal. It's easy to use, has awesome crunch and packs 9 grams of protein in each serving! When was the last time your breading added a bunch of protein to your dishes?

Alright, I mentioned corndogs above. But do you know what I really love? Mini corndogs. Yup ... I'm a grown woman with a professional career and I love mini corndogs.

The problem? I'm too stinkin' old to order off the kids menu at restaurants. I could buy some pre-made mini corndogs but I feel like they're always full of crazy ingredients.

So, when we released our awesome new breading, I knew exactly what I was going to try! I suppose since our breading isn't actually cornbread, they're not technically CORNdogs. But can we all just agree they're close? OK. Thanks.

Though they may taste just slightly different because of the change in breading, these are moving to the top of my mini-corndog list for a whole host of reasons.

  • They were easy.
  • They were pretty quick.
  • I know what's in them. Did I mention the Crunchy Sesame Pretzel Breading is TS EatWell (no artificial anything!).
  • They were good!

Here's exactly what I did:

Start by preheating the oven to 350°.

Pour the breading into a dish. In a separate dish, whip a couple eggs.

Dip a cocktail sausage into the egg and then into the breading. Coat completely.

I actually did this twice so my breading would be a bit thicker. So, back into the eggs and then into the breading again.

Place these on a greased baking rack. I usually cover a cookie sheet with foil and place my rack on top of that. Clean up is quicker this way!

Bread all of your cocktail sausages. Pop the rack and baking sheet in the oven for 10-12 minutes.

It's that easy! Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce and listen to your kiddos rave! (You'll love them, too!)

Dip each sausage into egg; coat in breading. Repeat for a double breading. Place breaded sausages on rack. Place rack and baking sheet in oven and bake for 10-12 minutes. Serve & enjoy. Makes about 30 mini corndogs.

Tips and Hints

  • You don't need to double bread these. Typically, corndogs have a thicker breading and I wanted to replicate that the best I could. If you want a thinner, crispier breading, just dip and coat them once and drop your cooking time by a couple minutes.
  • A single layer of breading will also cut your prep time in half, making this a very quick meal from start to finish.
  • Want to mix up your flavors? Add some Garlic Pepper Seasoning or our new Pizzeria Seasoning to the breading before coating the sausages.
